GET Smarter is back! Here’s your first opportunity to expand your fitness knowledge…
GET Bells 101 – Thursday, August 24 at 6:30pm
Kettlebells bridge a gap between strength and cardio like no other exercise or equipment. When executed and utilized correctly, the kettlebell can produce real world strength, fix movement patterns and teach skill. Step up your kettlebell game to progress your workouts, challenge your mind/body, get lean and increase cardio ability.
The Great GET Golf Outing is happening THIS Saturday. Everyone is welcome to join up afterwards at Artisanal Brew Works for some family-friendly fun & brews! (Shoot for 1:30/2pm – check Facebook that day for more specific timing.)
GET Track Day – Friday, September 1 from 2-4pm
Snacks and drinks will be provided for a fun-filled afternoon at the races! Feel free to bring friends and family.
Fall back into Healthy Living in September, and set yourself up for success! In addition to goals in the gym, many people have goals set outside of the gym this fall like 5ks/10ks/half marathons/Ragnar, Tactical Strength Challenge, and more! Jump in on the 10-day Shake Challenge, or refresh your body and cement Healthy Living habits to fuel your fitness and your life with the 30-day Detox! Results include weight loss, increased energy, improved sleep and overall health – inside & out. See Casey for more information.

GET to know your teammates
We have had many new faces join the team since we moved, and we want all team members to know each other better! Please take a few minutes to complete this quick survey so that we can share some fun facts! Thank you in advance for sharing your responses with us!
Also – tell your teammates, friends and family why you train by tagging photos and posts with #whyItrain, and checking in at Gunning Elite Training as the location. Any GET team member that shares/tags on Facebook by June 30 will be entered to win one of our new Strong Team bracelets! (Note, you will earn 1 entry per post.)
It’s a GET Together – Mark your calendar!
One of our strong couples, Dave and & Rosie, have invited the GET team to their house for a barbecue on Saturday, July 8 at 1pm. A Facebook invite was shared earlier this week. If you are on Facebook and did not see the invite, please connect with Casey, Matt or Rosie to be added to the event.
A Growing Team
As we grow, working together is critical to maintaining our STRONG TEAM. Cancelling on time is just one way we must work together to ensure we maintain an optimum, efficient schedule.
Starting June 1 GET will be enforcing our late fee policy. $10 will be charged to anyone’s account who cancels within 1 hour of the scheduled group start time. We and your team members appreciate your consideration.
LOVE is STRONG – Congratulations!
THANKS, from Paige
Dear GET Team,
For those of you who I didn’t get the pleasure to meet, my name is Paige Durrant. I am a sophomore at Skidmore College studying Management and Business. This past semester I worked alongside Casey and Matt as their marketing intern, and am now headed home for summer break.
I am so honored to have been a part of this special team, especially during the big move. Being there on the opening day was a great experience. Watching so many members help move from the old location to the new made me realize how tight-knit this community is and how proud I was to be a part of it.
For those of you who I had the pleasure of meeting, thank you for accepting me as part of the community. I loved getting to know you all and I hope to see you around this fall. My biggest regret is not being able to meet all of you and not being able to come in more often to sweat with you.
This opportunity Casey and Matt have given me is something I will be forever grateful for. You guys are the best and I cannot thank you enough.
With love and sweat,

I’ve been training consistently for 15 years now. I’ve learned a lot about training, still have a lot more to learn, but my approach has changed drastically from when I first started. I’ve made a ton of mistakes with my training as well. My ultimate goal in fitness and health is to guide people down the right path and have them not make the same mistakes that I made and mistakes that I constantly see people make all the time.
Alright, ARE YOU READY FOR IT? Master the basics, FOLKS!!!! Everyone knows the saying, KISS (Keep it simple st$%@). It couldn’t be more true with fitness. There is nothing that drives me more crazy than when I see people sharing some insane workout from YouTube talking about how they can’t wait to do it…yet they can’t perform a basic pushup with good form. And I see people posting this crap everyday!! The crazy thing is that I was one of these people that did the same thing a while back. I would see some workout that looked really cool and I would literally believe that that’s what I should be doing to get the best results. Oh, what a fool I was! I would try it, then I would always thankfully transition back to the basics. I came across a great quote the other day and it resonated with me…
“It’s not about doing what the ‘best’ are doing. It is about finding out what they did to become the ‘best’ in the first place.”
Ok. So what are the basics? Here they are, in my opinion, in no particular order:
- Press (pushup)
- Pull (chinup)
- Knee dominant (bodyweight/goblet squat)
- Hip Dominant (deadlift, kb swing)
- Rolling/tumbling (Turkish get up)
If you have trouble doing some or any of these movements listed above, these are what you need to master. If you can master all of these movements, I can guarantee that your fitness/strength will be at the highest it’s ever been. You will feel better, move better, and be stronger.
Listen, I know people get bored and they want to mix things up as much as possible. I totally get it and you do need to switch it up to receive a training effect and keep improving. What you don’t want to do though is get away from the basics if you haven’t mastered them yet. I can’t stress that enough. If you are the type of person that gets bored and wants to switch it up, you have to change your mindset.
Be consistent. Train Hard. Master the basics.
